Wildfire Aware Situation Report: Weather Discussion

Provided by the National Interagency Fire Center
Scattered showers and mixed wet and dry thunderstorms are expected across much of Washington, northern Oregon, Idaho, western and central Montana, and Wyoming. Flash Flood Watches are in effect for parts of northern Washington and the Idaho Panhandle. Isolated dry thunderstorms are also possible in portions of southeast Arizona into west-central New Mexico. Hot, dry, and breezy conditions will continue across portions of southeast California through the greater Four Corners region and in portions of Texas and the Lower Mississippi Valley. Gusty southerly winds with low relative humidity and hot temperatures are expected in portions of the Alaska Interior and Copper Basin, and isolated thunderstorms are likely over the eastern Interior and North Slope as well. Thunderstorms are expected from the Front Range onto the southern and central Plains, with scattered to widespread severe thunderstorms likely from the Midwest through the Ohio Valley and southern and central Appalachians into the Mid-Atlantic and Deep South. Showers are likely across portions of the northern Plains, Upper Midwest, and Great Lakes.
Red Flag Warnings are in effect throughout eastern Alaska, Central Texas, Eastern Utah into, Western Colorado, and Northern New Mexico. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect in Northern New Mexico. The Storm Prediction Center has issued areas of fire weather concern that are expected again today, but will primarily be focused across the Southwest/Four Corners region, where widespread, sustained elevated conditions are expected. More localized fire concerns may emerge across portions of central to southwest Texas.
